Lissa Kathe

Name: Lissa Käthe

Touching the piano ignited an enormous affinity with it's sounds at the age of 2, becoming a vehicle for expression, imagination and emotion.

"My Beale piano is everything to me,.. I always remember how if I put the piano lid down, it was a huge statement to the world that I too was 'closed!  even though not a soul really noticed or cared, but that really hardly ever happened, as I was 'open' always to what the world was
surrounding me with, that still applies now and the piano lid is NEVER down, I feel almost abandoned and get into quite panic if it is accidently closed by anyone.

Growing up the second youngest of a large family with a minimum of 7 children in the house and my siblings 5 years older was a great excuse to 'be alone' ...finding a special 'Lissa World' on the Beale.

My very first recollection of music was my mother's German marching band records, what energy and grandness! and Opa's button accordion, at 4 I followed him around the garden while he played.

I actually can't think of any 'pop' music that caught my attention, there was plenty of singing in the household my father teaching us to sing rounds while washing up the dishes, I played recorder and guitar in the school orchestra and my siblings playing Bob Dylan songs on guitar..other than that I lived on three tapes alone, two (have to look up the name?)  and one with 'Songs Of The Humpback Whale'.

At the magical age of 9, when little melodies that I invented were repeated over and over ..and over, driving all in the house mad.. Idolizing my older brother on the piano hoping one day I would be half as good as he was, something did catch my attention in a very profound way.
Kate Bush, and Wuthering Heights..soaring and dancing and expressing magnificent  story, all vivid and daring, honest and bold...! growing up with Kate Bush has been invaluable to my own journey as a musician, teaching fearlesness and honesty, expressing what is in the heart no matter how against the waves it may be.

Failing music in high school because of spending too much time creating my own pieces on the piano and not doing the work set, didn't  stop me eventually playing in a few bands and writing more.

Attending the Northern Conservitorium of The Arts was a perfect environment to test my musical abilities, (and catch up with music theory) Majoring in Piano and vocals and then thrown into the deep when the need for a Bass player arose, taking it in my stride and discovering yet another instrument to indulge in.

Meeting 'Kez' Watson and continuing to play fretless Bass and accordion in the Celtic band 'Blackthorn' in 2001 was a highlight for me, 'Celtic music' so strong in my blood, Kez was a great inspiration!
The language of music is an incredible medium for communicating, with so many different ways to acheieve it.

With a very talented and theatrical father that I worshipped, although painfully shy growing up, I admired his ability to express so many different things through music and drama. I revel in the production side of theatre and music and have been involved in many technical aspects of major productions including the Australian premier of the spectacular and very successful
Richard Harvey & Ralph Stedman's 'Plague and Moonflower Armidale 2003 NSW and the magnificent outdoor stage at Woodford Folk Festival!! http://www.regionalartsnsw.com.au/

Then gracing the stage as the romantic lead 'Marion' in the production of 'The Music Man' in 2004,  and then as a soloist in the concert 'A Night On Broadway with Peter Cousins.'

Now indulging in my own 'Lissa World' My music overwhelmingly reaching the surface with the collection of Demo songs called 'My Garden' recieving a warm and embracing response leaving listeners simply wanting more.... all STILL on my beloved and faithfull Beale piano!
